What do you see on the card?
A moon with a face shines in the sky, and drops fall from among its rays. Below it, a path winds between two grey towers toward distant mountains. On either side of the path a dog and a wolf bay at the moon, and in the foreground a crayfish crawls out of a pool.
- The face of the moon — the unconscious — half lit, half hidden.
- The dog and the wolf — tamed instinct and wild instinct.
- The crayfish in the water — fears and feelings rising from the depths.
- The two towers — the gateway to the unknown.
- The winding path — a road that reveals itself only one step at a time.
The story of the card
Following the light of the Star, the Wanderer went on. The path led him deeper and deeper into the night, until he came to a still pool with the great moon shining on its surface.
Two ancient towers rose on either side of the water. The moonlight drew strange shapes in the mist, as if reality and dream were blending into one. The Wanderer sensed that the road was splitting in two, but he could not tell which way was right.
The dog stopped and listened, hearing sounds no human ear could catch. The moonlight was deceptive: the shadows looked friendly one moment and threatening the next.
Then the Wanderer understood that not everything can be seen and known. Some things can only be felt. Fear and illusion were testing him, but his inner voice could carry him through the dark.
He took a deep breath, looked up at the Moon, and a quiet, certain feeling spoke in his heart.
Darkness is not the enemy. It only shows you the path in a different light.
UprightThe Moon Meaning
Intuition, uncertainty, illusion. When the Moon appears upright, the situation is not what it seems — something is still hidden, and your fears may be making the picture look bigger than it is.
Waite links the card with "hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception." Modern readings put the weight on the unconscious: pay attention to your dreams and your intuition, and do not decide out of panic.
ReversedThe Moon Reversed
Reversed, the Moon shows fear fading and confusion clearing: it is becoming clear what was only illusion.
It can also mean that suppressed feelings are coming to the surface. What was blurry until now is starting to come into focus.
The Moon in Love, Work and Life
Love
Uncertainty, unspoken feelings, idealization or misunderstanding — do not decide based on your fears. Reversed: the situation clears, the truth comes out.
Work & money
An unclear situation, missing information — check the details and do not sign anything in a hurry. Reversed: what was hidden comes to light.
Spiritual path
After the hope of the Star, the Moon brings the night road: darkness is not the enemy, it only shows you the path in a different light.
